Establish sludge volumes, feedstock characteristics and the condition of existing municipal infrastructure.
Project Portfolio · South Africa
Transforming municipal wastewater residuals into energy, nutrients and commercially valuable circular bio-economy resources.
The Project
Project ReSource is a proposed South African wastewater resource-recovery and circular bio-economy programme. It is designed to investigate how wastewater sludge and compatible organic residuals can be transformed from municipal liabilities into productive resources.
Depending on the resource base and conditions at each location, project pathways may include anaerobic digestion and biogas, electricity and heat, biomethane or Bio-CNG, nutrient recovery, soil conditioners or fertilizer inputs and other beneficial uses.
The programme is technology-neutral. Each facility will be developed around its actual feedstock, existing infrastructure, municipal requirements and commercial opportunities.
The Opportunity
The innovation lies in integrating proven resource-recovery technologies into commercially structured, financeable municipal projects.
Establish sludge volumes, feedstock characteristics and the condition of existing municipal infrastructure.
Use mass and energy balances to identify the most suitable treatment and resource-recovery pathway.
Build the strongest project-specific combination of service revenues, savings, energy and recovered resources.
Development Model
A central Programme Entity will originate and prepare opportunities. Individual facilities can be financed, constructed and operated through separate Project SPVs where appropriate.
Impact Potential
The precise impact will be quantified for each project after the baseline, feedstock and technical configuration have been established.
Investment Opportunity
The immediate requirement is development capital to establish the Programme Entity, screen municipal opportunities, assemble specialist partners and advance the strongest location towards a financeable First Demonstration Project.
Infrastructure equity and debt will follow once the first facility has been technically defined, commercially structured and progressed through the applicable procurement process.
